Inhalants are drugs that produce a quick, temporary high, lightheadedness, and euphoria when fumes or gases of drugs are breathed and absorbed in to body through lungs. It creates much damaged effects on body of addict such as sleepiness, headache, or nausea for one or two hour. Inhalants are very cheap from other drugs. It can easily obtained anywhere because is legal. Most of the people are inhaled these in high quantity. It is also safer from other drugs and commonly used by children and young adolescents.

There are three main types of inhalants which are as organic solvents, nitrites and nitrous oxide. Organic solvents are liquid compound of carbon that has the energy to break other compounds. They are highly volatile and easily evaporate in to gaseous form which can be inhaled. Many common products are gasoline, lighter fluid, spray paint, thinners, removers, glue, nail polish removers and cleaning fluids. They are most dangerous to abuse.

Nitrites are compounds of nitrogen and cause relax in walls of blood vessels. They are used medically to relieve attacks of chest pain which is caused by inadequate blood flow in blood vessels. It produces euphoria and effect on central nervous system. It can be easily found in the form of amyl nitrite and butyl nitrite. Amyl nitrite is usually packaged in to plastic capsules and butyl nitrite founds in bottle or spray can.

Nitrous oxide is commonly called as Laughing Gas. It was firstly used for recreational purposes. It is combination of nitrogen and oxygen. It is mainly used by the dentists to block pain. It produces a pleasant and dreamy state of consciousness. It is condensed and stored in metal tanks.

The three types of inhalants are sniffed or taken by different ways. The fumes from organic solvents are inhaled by people. Capsules are crushed and held beneath the nose and butyl nitrite are inhaled or applied to cloth or paper. Nitrous oxide is also inhaled by addict. Inhalants are usually mild and stay for short time so people think that it is not harmful but in research found that they can be very dangerous and provide much damaged effects on inhaler. They produce short term and long term effects on body of addict.

Short term effects are breathing passages, cough, painful inflammation, nose bleeds, reckless violence, weakness, faintness and heart problems. It effects on central nervous system and respiratory system. Sometimes it can cause coma and even death also. Heavy doses of inhalants can cause permanent brain damage with poor memory, mood swings and tremors in addict’s body. They can cause blindness also. They produce much damaged effects on body of addict.
